The St. Ansgar plant’s anniversary event was a milestone for Post Consumer Brands and the community. With a population of about 1,100, the Iowa town is a tight-knit community. On Saturday, Nov. 9, residents came together for a community breakfast and cereal sale to celebrate Post’s 125th anniversary and Malt-O-Meal’s 100th anniversary.

At the event, which took place at South Square in St. Ansgar, Post Consumer Brands donated $12,500 to the Mitchell County Food Bank and $12,500 to Worth County Community of Promise. Steve Mullennex, operations manager at the St. Ansgar plant, and other Post Consumer Brands executives presented the donations.

The plant also sold boxes of cereal for $1 each during the event to raise another more than $5,000 for the Mitchell County Food Bank and the Worth County Community of Promise. The team also donated an additional 10,000 boxes and bags of cereal to the two local food banks.

“Our event was planned as a way to give back to the local community, and I believe we did just that through our combined efforts,” Mullennex said.

Local non-profits fight hunger in Iowa

Last year, the Mitchell County Food Bank provided enough food for 2,740 individuals and more than 82,000 meals. The Post Consumer Brands donation will help the food bank feed even more hungry families in need.

Worth County Community of Promise (WCCP) is a non-profit organization that operates out of Northwood Community Center in Iowa. WCCP facilitates a variety of programs with a mission to enrich the quality of life for people in Worth County and surrounding areas. Their efforts include hunger relief initiatives.
