Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30. It was created to raise awareness about the millions of animals in shelters waiting for adoption. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the joy of bringing home a shelter pet and encouraging others to consider adoption as a way to provide a loving place for these pets to call their forever homes.
In honor of Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, we celebrate the unconditional love and companionship our adopted friends bring to our lives. Today, we’re highlighting some of our employees’ pet adoption stories.
About our pet adoption benefit for Post employees
Post Consumer Brands™ supports pet adoption every day by providing an annual allowance to help cover pet adoption fees through a shelter. Many employees have taken advantage of the benefit, adding beloved dogs and cats to their family. Learn more about life at Post.

“I am a pilot with The Polar Express Dog Rescue and I fly rescue dogs out of harm into non-profit animal rescues in the Northeast. When we landed in Vermont, I asked the rescue if Grace had been spoken for yet. She wasn’t so she flew back home with me.”

“Wallace has made the best addition as a little brother to our family—even though he’s now bigger than his big brother. His litter was brought to Post last year for our summer kickoff party, so I met him at work through Ruff Start Rescue!”

Meet Augustus “Gus,” Adopted by Jamie Kenealy
“Gus is the sweetest boy. He follows me everywhere I go and wants to be involved in everything. He is a 78 lb cannonball when he gets the zoomies, but they are short-lived and then he is back ready to be an oversized lapdog. He absolutely adores his dog sister Murphy, and they often curl up using each other as their own personal pillow. We are so grateful to be able to have adopted him with the assistance of Post’s adoption reimbursement program! Augustus was adopted through Unbreakabull Pit Bull Rescue, which is a nonprofit, no-kill, volunteer-based bully breed rescue serving the Twin Cities metro area.”

“Rosie has added a lot of spunk to our family! She loves to snuggle, will clean up any mess you make in the kitchen, and 9 times out of 10 you will catch her in the Love Sac snoring!”

“We adopted Maggie from the Minnesota Basset Rescue. Maggie is 3 years old and she is a real sweetheart. She loves going on walks, playing chase with her toy duck, belly rubs and there hasn’t been a treat she doesn’t like. She has been a wonderful addition to our family.”
Meet Eddy Spaghetti, Adopted by Evan Wilson
“Eddy Spaghetti is a Husky mix that I adopted from the Lawrence Humane Society here in Lawrence, Kansas. The photo doesn’t really capture his true personality. He’s a real goofball if you couldn’t tell by his name. This dude is an absolute menace when it comes to food. You don’t want to leave anything edible unattended when he is around, but he is a total sweetheart that loves to cuddle up on the couch. He loves all the typical dog stuff—going for a walk or ride in the car, going to the off-leash dog park by the lake and playing in the backyard with his brothers Graham (Shepard mix) and Casper (Cocker Spaniel).”
