What Do Careers in Manufacturing Really Entail?
Modern manufacturing team members are not just working on an assembly line. They are learning how to operate various machines, solving problems, collaborating with team members, and so much more.
At Post, a career in manufacturing means employees are set up for success, with various schedule options that support work-life balance and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
With numerous manufacturing and distribution center locations, Post offers candidates the opportunity to find a role where they can bring iconic pet and grocery brands to consumers’ tables.
More Than Repetitive Assembly Line Work
A day of work in manufacturing is not traditional assembly line tasks. In fact, team members working on a production line are using technical and critical-thinking skills to operate diverse equipment. They collaborate daily with team members from onboarding on, always learning new things on the job. Nyssa Stoll, senior manager of operations, said, “What we do on a day-to-day basis is solve problems, monitor equipment through controls and use our minds instead of our bodies.”
With the combination of employee engagement and education, Post team members can build professional skills and grow in their career.
Mechanical Learning
Whether you have experience working with machines or are new to the manufacturing world, a role at Post helps you build the skills needed to work in modern manufacturing.
There is always something new to learn, creating a curiosity about the processes, a willingness to learn, and an ability to be taught keys for success. Isiah Walker, specialist – processing, advises new hires to, “Come in each day with a positive attitude and be teachable.”
The learning curve of manufacturing can feel overwhelming at first, but Post team members are committed to supporting new hires as they gain hands-on experience. “Remember that you’re not going to get it right away and that’s ok. Take it one step at a time and keep learning,” said Jack Schendel, specialist – packaging.
Creative Problem-Solving and Collaboration
Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do at Post, and our manufacturing team is no different. Team members are encouraged to identify opportunities for improvement, take initiative in solving problems and contribute to ideas that help the team succeed. “Teamwork is so huge here. When you have a good team, it makes the learning process quicker and your days more enjoyable,” said Operator – B, Packaging, Luke Sargent.
At Post, every team member plays a role in the success of the whole team. Clear communication, collaboration, and trust between teammates is essential in keeping processes running smoothly through each shift and setting the next team up for success.
A team-first mindset ensures you and your team thrives. “A willingness to work collaboratively with a team and the more you’re willing to solve the problems, the better you’ll fit in,” said Nyssa Stroll, senior manager of operations.
Various Schedule Options
A manufacturing work schedule looks a little different than a typical nine-to-five. At Post, manufacturing team members work 12-hour shifts and unique weekly schedules. This schedule structure supports a continuous workflow, lowering the risk of miscommunication between shifts.
Team members say they appreciate the work-life balance this schedule provides. “I’m able to make it to all my children’s sporting activities. I feel like Post has been great about being able to meet my home life, and it’s a good balance,” says Operator B – Packaging, Aimee Kieffer.
Being on time is also an important aspect of working in manufacturing at Post. It helps support the success of the entire team, ensuring the safety and efficiency of each shift. “You have to be aware of what’s going on. It’s a safety precaution as well,” said Aaron Resendez, specialist – Program Support Technician.
