How Do Shift Schedules Work for Manufacturing Jobs?

Team Members Often Work in 12-hour Shifts

Rather than working a typical nine-to-five, most manufacturing team members at Post work in 12-hour shifts. These longer shifts help keep our operations running around the clock, while giving team members a predictable schedule. With both day and night shift options, employees can find a schedule that best fits their routine and personal preferences.

Non-Traditional Schedule

Similar to the 12-hour shift schedule, the workweek for a manufacturer at Post typically differs from a traditional schedule. One example is a 3-2-2 or 2-2-3 schedule, meaning employees work three consecutive days, have two days off, and then work two more consecutive days. This consistent rotation gives team members built-in time off during the week and every other weekend, while also supporting a balance between work and personal life.

Working Every Other Weekend

Typically, our manufacturing team members work every other weekend as part of their regular schedule. A typical rotation means employees would work on Monday and Tuesday, have off Wednesday and Thursday, and work again Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The following week, employees have off Monday and Tuesday, work Wednesday and Thursday, and have off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

How Do Manufacturing Shift Options Impact Work-Life Balance?

Starting a career in manufacturing may mean adjusting to a new work schedule. Post team members acknowledge the adjustment, but overall, they say that it is a part of the job they enjoy. “The thing I like most is that I’m not working a traditional workweek,” said Isiah Walker, specialist – processing.

At Post, we value improving the lives and well-being of all our employees, which includes ensuring they are able to balance work with their personal needs. “I never have to take days off for appointments and I’m able to make it to all my kids’ activities. I really feel like Post is great at being able to meet my home-life needs,” said Aimee Kieffer, operator B – packaging.

We also offer employees opportunities for overtime, giving them additional flexibility in their weekly schedules. “There’s so much variety here as far as when you want to work,” said Luke Sargent, operator B – packaging.
