Ingredients

½ cup shortening
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ cup Malt-O-Meal® Original Hot Wheat cereal
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

Heat oven to 350°F. In a 2-quart saucepan, heat shortening over low heat until melted; remove from heat. Mix in brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. In a large bowl, combine flour, cereal, baking soda, salt and nuts. Add shortening mixture; mix well.
Spread into a lightly greased 13X9-inch pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool; cut into squares. Yield: 24 bars.
