Restoring a Piece of C. W. Post’s History in Battle Creek

Throughout the spring of 2025 a team at our Post Consumer Brands’ Battle Creek, Mich. plant brought a piece of history back to life.  The team worked to restore C.W. Post’s office which resides in the site’s historic clubhouse. The project, led by Jeff Wood, capital project manager, in partnership with Carl Berendsohn, plant technical director, Todd Person, site vice president, and Roxanne Davis, vice president of manufacturing, was completed in May, reviving the space’s early nineteenth-century Victorian design and offering a tangible link to our company roots.

So, who was C.W. Post? A visionary entrepreneur and the founder of Postum Cereal Company in 1895, C.W. Post helped shape the modern food industry and played a major role in transforming Battle Creek into a hub for innovation and manufacturing. His legacy of creativity and quality continues to guide our work in cereal, grocery and pet food today.

The office restoration was completed with great attention to detail. While the floor and stairs were updated with modern materials to meet food quality and safety standards, the overall design stayed true to the original aesthetic. Jeff partnered with a Battle Creek-based carpentry company and sourced authentic vintage furniture and décor from across the country. For example, curtains came from a company in Oregon, chairs from a collector in Connecticut, and sconces from California—each selected to help bring the historic vision to life.

For Jeff, the project held personal significance. His grandmother, a retired Post employee, instilled in him a sense of pride in the company. According to Jeff, she would proudly say “I work for Post.” That memory inspired Jeff to approach the restoration with the same dedication to quality and legacy that she carried throughout her career.

“Restoring this office wasn’t just about preserving furniture,” said Wood. “It was about creating a space that connects us to our past and reminds us of the values that still guide us today.”

The completed office is now a physical representation of an important part of our company’s history. By honoring C.W. Post’s original vision, the team hopes his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

“This restoration is more than just a visual update, Jeff’s passion and dedication brought C.W. Post’s office back to life in a way that connects all of us to the company’s legacy,” said Todd Person, site vice president at Battle Creek. “It’s a great example of how honoring our past helps shape our future.”

The restored office will now be used monthly to recognize long-time service award recipients and retirees at the Battle Creek plant. The tradition officially began on May 22 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony where team members celebrated two 50-year service awards and two 30-year service awards.

Please note: While the office plays an important role in our internal culture and celebrations, it is not open to the public.

A special thank you to everyone who helped bring this meaningful project to life.
