Starting the morning strong for National School Breakfast Week

Fruity Pebbles cereal on school breakfast table

With National School Breakfast Week celebrated March 2-6, now is a great time to get the facts on why eating breakfast will never go out of style — and why it’s still the most important meal of the day for people of all ages, especially children.

Breakfast fuels the day

Recent media reports claim that eating breakfast is no longer necessary. So what gives? For kids and adults alike, research shows that eating breakfast has many benefits. It helps the muscles and brain work best in the day ahead, and jump-starting the day fueled with food staves off hunger that may increase unhealthy snacking later on. 1

Kids who eat breakfast have higher school attendance, are on-time more often, and have fewer hunger-induced stomach aches in the morning, according to the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. They concentrate better, solve problems more easily, have better muscle coordination and are more likely to maintain a healthy weight. Research also has found that a hearty breakfast can result in higher test scores. 1
